Album Review: Drake "Thank Me Later"

The wait is over. Hip Hops new king is here to reign! Or is he? The anticipation has set standards that are almost impossible for Drake to live up to. It was my fear that he was set up for failure.

My first listen through was very unfulfilling. Not that it wasn't good, there just wasn't an "initial impact." No super hot tracks, no clever hooks. And after listening to the album I realized that he was singing just as much as he was rapping. I personally enjoy him more as an emcee considering the fading trend of Auto Tune.

I don't want to be a total hater, so I will say this: Drake is very close to being a lyrical genius. There are great metaphors, and superb verses on this record. The guy can rap. But with the expectations set by the industry and himself, this album is far from classic work. Especially from someone who claims to run hip hop!

Get the record. Expect to hear great verses, great colabs (Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I., Alicia Keys), but thats about it. My Fav is "Thank Me Now."

Drake the Great

I am not a hater, but up and coming artist Drake is recieving a ride in the fast lane by chauffeur. This guy is recieving accolades that far exceeds his accomplishments. Let the jitterbug release his first album before we crown him. He's gonna need far more than a great mixtape to fill the shoes that the game has awaiting him. Last nite the 23 year old, unknowingly was nominated for 2 Grammys. Thats right 2! Best Rap Solo Performance, and Best Rap Song. I truley hope his album represents cause if not.....

For today's Music Monday I decided to break you guys off with some music from my favorite new artist...Drake. Yes Drizzy is on his grind bad leg and all. Today he premiered his new video "Successful" featuring Trey Songz.

If you haven't hopped on the Drake bandwagon yet, now is the time.

Music Monday!

Today for Music Monday I decided to give you some songs from Jay-Z's upcoming album The Blueprint 3, "Reminder" and "Off of That" featuring Drake. I like the songs, I just wish that Drake could have dropped a quick 16 for me instead of just the hook, but oh well.

For you have been following the blog, you know that I have this love affair with Jigga and will be in Best Buy on September 11th getting my copy of BP3...I can't wait.

So I'm going to do Music Monday a little different today. In the 1905 (my apartment) you can find the most eclectic group of young adults; my roomy (@ASULamont), myself, and any of our random friends who pop up on a daily basis. Drake Falls Down

So actor turned rapper Aubrey Drake Graham aka Drizzy Drake re-injured his acl while performing his hit "Best I Ever Had," in Young Money's "America's Most Wanted Music Festival."

I have been a fan of Drake since he was Jimmy on the teen show "Degrassi." He has a lyrical talent that is unmatched by anyone in his age bracket, and his ascent into hip hop has been a quick rise to the top. I mean he performed on the BET Awards and he hasn't even dropped an album!

Hope this is just a minor setback.
