8 Years Later...

It's hard to believe that it has been 8 years since the tragic death of singer/actress Aaliyah Haughton. I remember being so excited about the release of the album she was about to drop at the time of her death. When she died my friends and I were in complete shock. I can even remember shedding a tear.

Today marks the 8th year of the plane crash that took her life along with the lives eight others. So in remembrance of Aaliyah's life and legacy I've compiled a few of her music videos.

Enjoy and remember this talented young lady. And please don't take life for granted because it is too precious and TOO short.

Music Monday!

Today for Music Monday I decided to give you some songs from Jay-Z's upcoming album The Blueprint 3, "Reminder" and "Off of That" featuring Drake. I like the songs, I just wish that Drake could have dropped a quick 16 for me instead of just the hook, but oh well.

For you have been following the blog, you know that I have this love affair with Jigga and will be in Best Buy on September 11th getting my copy of BP3...I can't wait.

He's Back....

R.Kelly feat. Keri Hilson

"Number One"

Looks as if R&B singer R. Kelly is relevant once again. This song has been circulating throughout the summer, and I thought it was Miss Keri's song. Some changes to the lyrics have been made, and this final cut is a good look for both artists.

Kel's new album will be album is scheduled to drop next month so be sure to pick that up.

Is This a Good Move???

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, but we are going to have to start calling Lil Wayne, Businessman Weezy. Last week I made a post about his new artist, Shanell. This week Weezy has announced the addition of Bow Wow and Omarion to the Young Money family.

I heard about Omarion joining earlier this summer, but Bow Wow came out of nowhere. Looks like Weezy is making some major moves signing all of these artists. Can't wait to hear some music from the new additions to Young Money.

More from Chris....

Got more music from Chris Brown for you. This song is rumored to be the first single from his new album Graffiti.

I like it much more than yesterday's song.

Vick is Back and with a Team...My Team...

Watch CBS Videos Online

So Michael Vick is officially back in the NFL, and I couldn't be more excited yet speculative. My team, the Philadelphia "Eggles" have picked up Vick for 2 years. But since the Eagles have a quarterback in Donovan McNabb, I'm wondering how and to what extent Vick will play this season.

Well this is definitely the story of the season, unless Brett Favre gets signed mid-season by some struggling team.

I have a question though..."Who's putting Vick on their fantasy team?"

You Can Play in My Band..

Lil' Wayne has definitely solidified himself as a top rapper in the game, but lately it hasn't been his music that has captivated me, however, his ear for talent has me looking online almost everyday for new music from his artists. It started with Nicki Minaj, I was sold when he signed Drake, and now if Drake wasn't enough, Weezy has added singer/songwriter Shanell to his Young Money line-up.

Shanell, a.k.a. Snl, is the sister of ex-Danity Kane member D.Woods. Her talent speaks for itself...listen and/or download.

The girl formerly known as...

I am now the girl formerly known as @CallMeDeonshay. There were some "twissues" the other day with Twitter, and my account along with roughly 2000 others was mistakenly suspended. "Oh no," was my first thought because you know how I love to tweet. I was sent an email saying that it could take up to 7 days to fix the issue, so I made a new account because I could not go 7 days without tweeting. I'll admit it...I'm a twittaholic, but hey don't judge me. Instead you should follow the new me @ItsDeonshay.

I need my followers back!!! This is so :-(

Where are my Tweeps?

I hopped up out the bed, put some clothes on, took a look at the net, and said Oh No! Twitter is not working.

If you don't know, I'm a functioning member of "twociety"...that is twitter society. I use twitter daily to let people know about new posts on the blog, random quotes I hear, to link up with my friends without having a ridiculous T-mobile bill, and to just let out some of my most inner-most thoughts. It's fun.

But today Twitterville has been hit with dysfunction, to say the least. There is a problem with site today and it is working sporadically. So for all of my Tweople out there...no tweets today. You can read the story on CNN.com, which goes into details about these "twissues."

When Twitter gets back running, make sure that you follow the Culture Shock hosts and myself at @cultureshockws and @CallMeDeonshay.

Don't say that you have NOTHING to do...

This one is for my peeps in Montgomery. I know that sometimes it seems like there is absoulutely NOTHING to do down here. However, in case you have nothing to do, you should check out The Weekend Pass to find out what is buzzin' in the Gump.

The Weekend Pass is a weekly e-newsletter that posts many of the different events that are going on in the River Region. It is the brainchild of one of my supervisors, Timothy Ervin. Now there's no excuse to be bored on the weekend.

So the next time I hear someone say there is nothing to do...I'll say, "Have you checked the Weekend Pass?"

Happy 48th to the 44th

On this day 48 years ago our 44th president, Barack Obama was born. Happy Birthday! Other than Abe Lincoln (President's Day), I don't think that I've ever acknowledged a president's birthday...oh well times have CHANGED.

Meet me at the "Rendezvous"...

I told you last week that whenever I got more details about the Sway's Way Modeling upcoming fashion show. Well the show is called "Rendezvous" and will be held at the Embassy Suites. Tickets are $10 in advanced and VIP is $20. I'm not sure how much tickets are at the door so try to get yours early.

I went to the Style Experience fashion show in March, had a wonderful time in the VIP section with my friends, and hope to have a similar experience. Last time VIP got into the afterparty for free. Hope it's the same deal for this show. I'm so there!!!

Talkin' Bout Good and Bad Hair...

This is the trailer for Chris Rock's documentary "Good Hair." In this movie Chris Rock goes into our obsession with hair.

Just like our complex about skin color, the complex of hair texture is something that has plagued the Black community for generations. With the advancements to hair care made by Madam C. J. Walker (hair care products) and Garrett A. Morgan (straightening comb) Blacks were able to change their natural "kinky" hair to the "more acceptable" straight hair of their Caucasian contemporaries. We saw this "conformity" become a trend in 1920's through the 1950's; that is, until the 1960's ushered in an era of Black Pride.

Hair straightening now is borderline cliche; everyone wants relaxed hair or long straight hair. Mother's are perming their daughter's hair as soon as their true hair texture is revealed. I received my first perm in either Kindergarten or 1st grade, and I loved my permed hair. I received my last 3 years ago; now I'm a proud dread head, and I love it as well.

This on-going debate about hair in our community is one that will never end, because at the end of the day...to each his/her own. What we have to see is that it is not in the way that we wear our hair that makes us beautiful; it is in our attitudes and character that truly defines BEAUTY.

Music Monday!

Okay I know that this is not Twitterville, but on Mondays the Internet is full of new tracks. So I've decided to share with you some of my faves that I have heard thus far....

I know that you remember singer, BJ the Chicago Kid who I showcased the other week. Well he is making some moves in the music world, in "Day One Girl," he collabs with West Coast rapper Jay-Rock. I like...

Miss Keri Baaabbbyyy!!! Need I say more. I know that you guys don't know how I feel about Keri, but when it seemed like Beyonce was my only option this Georgia Peach came out of nowhere to show me and the rest of the world a perfect world. Here's her, Lil Kim, and Teyana Taylor on an all ladies version of "Swag On."

'Yuuuppp.' That's right it's my boy Trey Songz. He's came a long way since he just had to make it, and now he one of the hottest male R&B artists. I'm loving this new song "One Love."

I did a blog the other week about the 2 new female groups. Well RichGirl is my favorite of the two and they have new music that has leaked from their upcoming album. Here's "Lucky You Are."

Drake Falls Down

So actor turned rapper Aubrey Drake Graham aka Drizzy Drake re-injured his acl while performing his hit "Best I Ever Had," in Young Money's "America's Most Wanted Music Festival."

I have been a fan of Drake since he was Jimmy on the teen show "Degrassi." He has a lyrical talent that is unmatched by anyone in his age bracket, and his ascent into hip hop has been a quick rise to the top. I mean he performed on the BET Awards and he hasn't even dropped an album!

One of my favorite celebrity blog sites Concrete Loop has posted what Drake had to say about his injury, you can view it here.

Hope this is just a minor setback.
