The Dunk

In honor of The NBA Finals, I figured we should remind Jarmar of his locally acclaimed poster featuring The Brothers of A Phi A dunking on him! Check it out!

Shaq Retires

OK, its official! I'm getting old, because I remember vividly the year and time Shaquille O'Neal entered into the NBA. And now my old ass is watching him walk into the sunset. When you live through moments like this in history, you're OLD!

Nonetheless, Shaq has made a tremendous impact on the sport we know and love, and we wish the best for him in his future endeavors, even if it doesn't include a cameo on Basketball Wives. (I don't watch that BTW)

Shots Fired

Kanye firing shots at Wiz and Amber?!

Headliner of the Coachella Music Festival Kanye West, made verbal statements about his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose, who is now dating Wiz Khalifa.

Mr. West decided to change some of the words in his song "Stronger" and was also aware that Wiz and Amber was a few feet away from him.

The original lyrics say: "I'd do anything for a blond dike, and she'll do anything if the time's right."

...but he said...

"I did anything for a blond dike, and she did anything when the times right."

Wiz got upset and allegedly stepped to Kanye and their entourages got into a bit of an altercation. The next morning Wiz tweeted about the situation saying, "Waken, baken...no I didn't go out swangen...I'm to hippie for that ishh."

Ye' just let the homie get his turn. I'm pretty sure there will be plenty more.

It's Official! The Carter IV

This is the official cover for The Carter IV, Lil Wayne's ninth studio album. It looks like it's taking the same route as the last album art (but including more tattoos and a lip ring ). The album is set to drop June 28th.

Miss Drika's Music Journal

We the Culture Shock know how hard the grind is to inspire the world through the internet. That is why whenever we run across anyone on the same grind we find it very important to support and spread the word.

A little over a month ago, I met Miss Drika (@iammissdrika) at Solace Sundays in Birmingham. She was the charismatic hostess for the evening that delighted the audience with her talents and her "crazy girlfriend" moniker. Check out her webcast, Miss Drikas Music Journal.

Obama vs. Trump

I'm not sure if you urbanites are paying much attention to this, but real estate, and reality TV mogul has started a "gab campaign," for president in 2012. Rumors started months ago, but seem to be gaining more ammunition as the popularity of his TV sitcom, Celebrity Apprentice, rises.

I can think on recent memory of Minnesota electing Jesse "The Body" Ventura as governor, and The Terminator leading the state of California, but I don't think I want the guy with the squirrel toupee as my prez. Even though, Charlie Sheen might make a helluva running mate for him! JK. Don't Believe The Hype! Read more here

Wrestlemania in The A!

Man, I grew up a wrestling fan. I remember crying when Paul Orndorff crushed Hulk Hogan, watching pay per view events on the scribbled channels cause a I could still see what was happening if I looked hard enough. I also remember being 18 and being sad when I saw Hulk Hogan turn into a bad guy. WTH?

This past weekend, the Super Bowl of wrestling was in the ATL, WrestleMania. I can't believe that in my latter age, I have let a childhood love of mine creep so far to the back of my mind that I didn't even try to make it. Like, can you imagine The Rock chillin in Magic City (tittie bar), or Booker T in the Velvet Room. Or maybe even The Ultimate Warrior up in Tongue n Groove. Anyway, I heard The A was off the chains and some of y'all old asses was up there. Why? Cause you still watch wrestling! And its cool, because I'm about to start back myself! The Price of Glory is High

I watched Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on last evening, as they discussed an ever churning spiral of student athletes being paid for services. This show featured former Auburn football players that described in detail of how they received money and sexual benefits while being recruited and playing at Auburn. On the surface, there is nothing different about this story. We have long heard of the infamous handshakes from boosters after games and the sexual services on recruiting trips.
My question is, why Auburn and why now?

If you ask me, I don't think these young men really care about the NCAA clamping down on cheating more than they seem to be reacting from not receiving a recent payoff. And Fatboy had the nerve to say that he felt taken advantage of. I guarantee these young men reached out to Auburn alum prior to recording this special and made one last request. Otherwise, I see no other motive for doing this. Why, disgrace your school now? Why do it after they have just received the most covenanted prize in college football? I know why. The Love of Money is the Root of all Evil!

Road Block App Ban

Who knew that there were phone apps that alert you of local police roadblocks? I did. My first thought was, "does it work?" Obviously it does, because attorney generals are calling for Google and Apple to discontinue the sell of these apps. The argument is that this alerts drunken drivers (whom shouldn't be on roads) of these roadblock and could actually prevent authorities from saving lives. <<<<#chile plz

I don't know about you, but everyone I know desires to limit his or her interaction with police. Whether its due to unpaid citations, a little weed in your pocket, maybe 2 drinks after leaving the club, nobody but assholes are cool with roadblocks. If I truly felt that these traps were to find drunken drivers maybe I would feel differently. But I don't, and I won't.

The Neti Pot

Hey guys, springtime is here, and take it from me, this is not the time to be sick. Maybe its me, but these days pollen seems to be mutating into super pollen. These days people are walking around suffering from allerg-sinusinfectionflu.

While there is no dodging pollen unless you stay home, there are preventative measures that can help you steer clear of many of these springtime ills. The above pic is called a Neti Pot, that is used along with saline water to clear the sinus passageways of pollen and other debris that can cause infection to the body. The Neti Pot is an age old practice that also energizes the body. Its a bit of an uncomfortable feeling initially, but so is a lot of initial experiences ;) until we learn to love it!

Album Review: Marsha Ambrosius "Late Nights and Early Mornings"

I know that this blog is late, but Marsha Ambrosius has rejuvenated my tolerance for R&B with her debut solo release of "Late Nights & Early Morning." This surprisingly highly anticipated release, debuted as the number one itunes album the week of its release. It makes me wonder how much her grassroots Twitter campaign had to do with the hype (#MarshaAmbrosius #MarshaAmbrosius RT).

Of coarse, Far Away is blowing up radio waves, but my favs are, "Hope She Cheats On You," which will surly be an anthem for chicks all over," I Want You To Stay," and her original version of the Michael Jackson hit written by her, "Butterflies." This album is a must have.

RIP Liz!

Today the world lost a legend. Elizabeth Taylor, died this morning at 79 years of age. She will forever be recognized as one of the worlds greatest entertainer. Her most celebrated film is Cleopatra. I can still smell the fragrance of White Diamonds, that my mama used to wear in which was Taylors perfume line. RIP!

Don't Sleep on Bobby V!

It's not his fault that he chose to release his latest work on the same day as The HAM Chris Brown. However, Bobby V (Valentino) Fly On the Wall goes pretty hard on the R&B tip. He is very consistent and sometimes overlooked in an over saturated industry. Besides, the young whipper snapper remade one of my fav Bobby Brown songs, Rock wit Ya. Cop dat!

Chris Brown: Don't Let "FAME" Go To Your Head

Yesterday marked the release of the highly anticipated FAME album by Chris Brown. To put it simply, FAME is a good album. Selective tracks such as "All Back" "Oh My Love," cross the boundaries of American timbres and take on global traits. Musically, Brown is growing and is showing progress to him becoming one of the future greats of pop music. I, personally, cant stop listening to Busta act a monkey on new radio hit "Look At Me Now." FAME is a must buy.

On the other hand, I wonder how much of his "off mic" shenanigans boost his appeal. Yesterday, reports stated that Chris acted a damn fool on and off the set of Good Morning America, when continuously asked about his old charges of beating Rhianna. It seems to me that Chris is buying his villain role as it seems to be catapulting his career. IJS

We're Not Alone in This Race

People came out by the masses to the Montgomery Public Schools board meetings to find out the fate of many schools that are closing. So far, there are five schools closing in Montgomery County which will leave a lot of questions in the air. The main priority in this situation are the kids but, number two are the teachers. What will happen to the 50 plus teachers that won't have a job in August?

This week in Wisconsin, the Madison School District shut down schools this week due to the large percentage of school teachers that walk out. Governor Scott Walker’s proposed budget bill that would strip them and most other public employees in Wisconsin of most of their collective bargaining rights. Teachers as well as students gathered on the steps of the capital to protest this decision.

Check this out...

We are living in a democratic world and what we say, goes. Just because they pass bills on Capital Hill or in any state, does not mean we don't have the last word. If it wasn't for the people, there would be no society. So don't bite the hand that feeds you; pay homage.

Newbie: Theophilus London

"Babes giving me rosez when I do my showez." Theophilus London is not your ordinary rapper. This Brooklyn MC mixes electro beats with a fuse of 80s gloomy pop. I discovered this artist last year when I ran into his rendition of of Whitney Houston's, I Will Always Love You (check it out). This is when the love affair started and oh yes, ladies love cool London, hence the shirtless nights preforming and the women yelling. His latest song is an twist on the R&B artist Tweet's song Oops and the with the help from Hollywood's rebel Lindsey Lohan in all her raunchiness in the video seals the deal.
